The Specials Review:
What a strange film! I have to admit that I wasn't very impressed by this film at all. The only thing that kept me watching was Jordan's character. It's a pity though as this film is based on a very original, interesting idea about super heroes with unusal 'powers'. But the plot is so simple that there is barely any storyline throughout the whole film. The plot basically consists of a new member joining the Specials; Shelly (played by the gorgeous, dark haired Jordan) whose hero allias is Nightbird. Then the group falls apart after one of them cheats on her husband with another Special. They only have to deal with the group splitting up for one night then they all decide to get back together again. That's all that happens. The film is supposed to be a comedy but it's not funny, and not even Jamie Kennedy could add any humor. In fact Mr Kennedy hardly has much of a part in this film. He should be in it a lot more than he is. I just found the film odd and kept waiting for something to happen but nothing much ever does. Jordan is the only real good thing about the film. She plays Shelly very well and she is a sweet, innocent character. We do not know what her powers are until the end of the film, which means that she keeps us guessing, gaining our interest. It was nice to see Jordan being involved in the film from the very beginning where we get to see her and a glimpse of her life before she becomes a Special. We do not get to know much about the other characters in the film. There is no point in a couple of them; Eight and the Alien. We barely get to see the groups special powers. It would have made the film better by far if we got to see their special powers in action, fighting bad guys and helping people but we only hear about what they do, we do not actually get to see. This is disappointing. There is not much more to say about this film. It is disappointing and fairly dull. There needs to be more jokes, more action and more development to the characters. This could have been a good, interesting film with the ideas and characters that are there. But even the ending of the film was bad, as it ends so abruptly you're left wondering what was the point to it all. I would not recommend this film to Jordan fans or any film fan. Do not bother even renting this film. Instead buy Cabin Fever as it is definitely Jordan's best film.
