Club Dread Review:

Synopsis:

This comedy / horror film is set on an island called Pleasure Island where people go to hoilday, drink, party and have sex. Sounds good huh? However as soon as the film begins we see that there is a darker side to Pleasure Island as three people are killed off by an masked murderer. Soon the staff who run Pleasure Island realise what is going on but decide not to tell the other holiday makers. Instead they plan to discover who the killer is before he starts picking them off, one by one.

Verdict:

I just want to know one thing; why did Jordan agree to take part in this fairly awful film? All through the film all I could think about was what this film was going to do to Jordan's reputation as an actress. She has always picked her movies well, untill Club Dread came along. Even she could not save this film for me. However I don't think this film was ever going to impress me as I hate the comedy slash horror genre and this follows in the tradition of the poor "horror" films such as the Scary Movie series. Club Dread possesses all of the typical teenage horror / comedy traits, such as lots of unnessarily semi-naked girls, silly sex scenes, rather undeveloped characters which we don't care about whatsoever and drinking, and drugs. The start of the film is quite good as three dumb people are killed off and one of the deaths is actually pretty nasty. But this just ends up as another, unoriginal movie that is intent on making fun of horror films.

There are a couple of laugh out loud scenes, like a scenes where the employees are running around a maze dressed up in silly costumes and jokes about the main character, Lars' weight.

The characters are all stereotypical and difficult to identify with for the audience. There is the ugly, fat central character, the blonde fitness instructor (played by Brittany Daniels), the drug-taking deejay and the English man. Jordan plays Penelope, a sweet but rather mysterious young girl who is visiting the island. All through the film we wonder what her secret is and the other characters think that she may be the killer.

Jordan puts in a good performace, of course but I was very disappointed to see her taking part in a topless scene towards the end of the film. She is a brilliant actress and she does not need to appear in films like this, especially in nude scenes.

Overall I was extremely disappointed in Jordan's new film. She should stick to 'real' horror films such as Cabin Fever, one of her best films. Club Dread does absolutely nothing for her. Oh, what were you thinking Jordan?
